Our Trainers Our trainers are members and leaders of early childhood organizations committed to professionals who care for young children growing up in our changing times. The Teaching Excellence Center recognizes that it takes early childhood educators of diverse talents and unique perspectives to solve today's most important and challenging dilemmas while simultaneously achieving better outcomes for children, families and teachers. We believe teamwork and shared values assist early childhood educators to succeed in the important work of preparing children for kindergarten and life. The Teaching Excellence Center’s early childhood professionals possess experience as head start coordinators, program directors, community college and university instructors, nonprofit management, training and technical assistance specialist, center directors, supervisors, curriculum specialist, local, state and federal government, and most importantly - classroom teachers. Daphne BabrowDaphne has taught preschool, elementary and teen parents in public and private settings. She has directed, coordinated and managed early childhood programs at the center, local and state level. She holds a BA degree from Tulane University, M.Ed in early childhood education and MPH in maternal and child health. Her Ph.D. is in child development from Auburn University. Dr. Babrow is committed to quality for all children and families and equitable access and availability of high quality care for children of varying abilities. She enjoys weekends with her husband and son when she is not teaching a Saturday class. Shawn BryantShawn trains early childhood educators throughout the Bay Area. Shawn teaches in a half-day Montessori preschool and provides early childhood mental health consultation to 5 Head Start centers and family childcare homes. Shawn has guided infant, toddler and preschool centers through the NAEYC accreditation process successfully. Shawn has worked as a preschool teacher in Head Start, center manager for state preschool, education coordinator, universal prekindergarten for The State of Georgia, environmental assessor, training and technical assistance and director. Shawn is a proud graduate of Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, the nation's first Historically Black College & University (HBCU) erected to educate those of African heritage in America. Graduate studies include MA in early childhood. Shawn enjoys visiting family back east and trips to Tahoe anytime of the year. Denise WareDenise is an expert in early childhood classrooms. She possesses over 30 years of experience in teaching, consulting and coordinating programs for children and their families. Denise has experience in NAEYC validation and accreditation in addition to professional experience as a seasoned center director of large, urban child development programs including Head Start and college campus based care. She’s a graduate of the prestigious Chestnut Hill College for women. Denise loves spending time with her four grandsons and enjoys church on Sunday morning. Monique GuidryMonique was employed with a high quality preschool before starting her own family childcare. She directs, owns and operates a family childcare that services infants, toddlers and preschoolers in San Francisco. Monique was recently president of the San Francisco Family Childcare Association and worked as a diversity trainer with the LGBT Initiative. Monique holds a BA and is currently pursuing graduate studies. Monique loves exercise and is excited about being a new mother. Ruth RodriquezRuth is a native San Franciscan. An honors graduate of San Francisco State University in psychology and a graduate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy Ruth understands the complexities of urban family life. Ruth has always aligned herself in environments that support children, youth and families starting with her own family. She’s always displays excellence as an early childhood educator. Ruth has lead infant and toddler caregiver and preschool programs that achieved and maintained NAEYC accreditation in non-profit, corporate and state preschools. Ruth is bilingual and facilitates sessions in Spanish for providers. Ruth loves her family and enjoys spending quality time with them every chance she gets. Evelia NavarEvelia is a Berkeley, California native. Evelia is a graduate of UC Berkeley and a CAL State Hayward graduate student with bilingual expertise in Spanish/English. Evelia facilitates sessions in Spanish and English and translates TEC materials from English to Spanish. Evelia started working with children and families in transition and has a special interest in improving the literacy levels of Hispanic communities. Evelia enjoys reading, warm weather her two dogs and three cats. Zelica RodriguezZelica is a graduate of UC Santa Cruz with a BA and San Francisco State University with a MA degree. Zelica is a lead translator and bilingual session facilitator. Zelica’s commitment to children and families started by supporting immigrant mothers of young children residing in San Francisco and Oakland in accessing support services for them and their children. Zelica enjoys Salsa dancing and rich foods.
